White Plains draws 17 Penalties, Loses Its Fourth Game of the season

Amid 17 Penalties, New York Rugby Club scored 5 penalty kicks and hold off White Plains 13-15.

Lack of discipline led to our demise yet again. We knew exactly what would happen if we made mistakes. We made mistakes and paid the penalty.
— Chris Dahlem, Head Coach

A tight first half, neither White Plains or NYRC were able to get across the try-line but both took advantage of their penalties. New York's fly-half, Andrew Magowan put in 2 of 3 kicks, while White Plains #10, Zach White chipped in 1. White plains unfortunately lost new back Stephen O'Dwyre to a concussion 20 minutes into the match. Flanker Matt Murphy joined the back line and Jack Smith replaced Murphy at flanker.

The second half started with more of the same. New York's Magowan scored 6 more points off a penalty and a Drop Goal. White Plains, Zach White, put another penalty kick in and the score remained 6-12 until the 70th Minute. New Player Alex Nichols was able to make a strong run through the centers and draw a penalty at the 5 meter line. White Plains Kicked for touch and created a maul off the throw, allowing Prop Broc Duncan to score the only try of the Game. Zach White's conversion put The Warpigs up 13-12.

"Lack of discipline led to our demise yet again.  We knew exactly what would happen if we made mistakes.  We made mistakes and paid the penalty," said Head Coach, Chris Dahlem.

Unable to limit the mistakes, White Plains continued to draw penalties and in the 78th minute, gave Magowan the opportunity to Kick. The Penalty Kick converted and White Plains were unable to respond.

"I'd like to see the boys pushing each other around the pitch for that is the mark of a great team.  I'm still waiting to see who takes ownership of that role," Dahlem says. "We have the pieces to do great things, it just seems we revert to old ways at times and that costs us."

White Plains is now 0-4-0  with 5 points. They now sit in 5th Place in their Division.

Next Game is against Last Place team, Long Island this Saturday, 12:30 at Iona College.
