WHITE PLAINS RUGBY CLUB APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR OF RUGBY

Dateline: White Plains, NY, February 5, 2019

White Plains Rugby Club has appointed Andrew Britt to the newly created position of Director of Rugby. Britt, a New Zealander, previously coached the Village Lions to the semi-finals of the D2 National Championship, and assisted RUNY in their trial season in 2018, will take responsibility for leading the Men’s D2 and D3 programs this spring.

We are very excited to welcome Andrew to the White Plains Rugby family - to have someone with his experience and expertise lead our program, will see us go from strength to strength, said Eric Nicklas, the club’s president. As one of the oldest clubs in the Greater New York area, we have a strong history of developing top quality players. We want to return to being a premier club on the national scene and Andrew’s appointment is the start of this.

When I started talking with White Plains Rugby, it became very clear that our visions for what the club could be were very strongly aligned and there’s a real desire to get back on top, said Britt. There is a lot of hard work to do but I’m excited about the challenge.

Last year’s coach CJ Cortalano is returning and will work closely with Britt to shape the D2 and D3 programs across the year. Our focus is on growing local talent and we’ll be talking to some of the strong high school and college programs in the area around becoming more integrated and sharing coaching knowledge – after all it’s about growing the game in the region so everyone benefits said Britt.

About White Plains Rugby Club

White Plains Rugby Club is Westchester’s home of the fastest growing team sport in America. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable athletic organization dedicated to the development of the sport of Rugby Union, the personal growth of young men and women, and support of our local community.

While our primary mission as an organization since 1972 has been to promote the growth and development of the game we love, White Plains Rugby is a family that has become an integral part of the local community. We have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charitable causes and given back to the community through blood drives, ALS events, and Wildlife-in-Crisis volunteering, while working to build youth rugby opportunities. We are a diverse group of athletes committed to the values of community, support, tolerance and excellence that define the great sport of rugby. Through rugby, we endeavor to shape individuals who in turn impact networks and communities.
